South Park Season 28: Is south park "too political"?

SOUTH PARK SEASON 28:

I started watching this season of south park when it aired on October 15th of 2025. It was formerly streamed on HBO Max but recently was moved to comedy central and also on Paramount +. This show is a political cartoon that is made for adults to watch.

VOICE ACTORS:
Trey Parker- Stan Marsh, Eric Cartman, and Jesus, Trump, JD Vance

Matt Stone-Kyle Bronowski, Kenny McCormick

April Stewart-Liane Cartman

Mona Marshall-Sheila Bronowski

SEASON 28 SPISODE 1 OVERVEIW:

"Twisted Christian"

This episode begins in the school located in South Park where Eric Cartman and his friends are reciting the viral "67" meme. They cannot stop and find it to be hilarious. The school begins to think the students are in a cult due to the cat they will not stop chanting this meme and uncontrolled laughing about it. They begin to hold meetings to school the children on what the anti-Christ is because they believe it is tied to them yelling the "67" meme. They then cut to mocking the size of Donald Trump's penis while in a planned parenthood where he is attempting to abort him and Satan's baby. An ongoing bit that Trump is sleeping with Satan. They then show JD Vance celebrating the closing of yet another planned parenthood and congratulating trump on making it happen. They also show the ten commandments being displayed in the school as a subtle blow to the fact that Texas is doing so. They then show Jesus speaking to a group of Christians where he seems uncomfortable and disappointed. JD Vance believes that the anti-Christ is coming and begins to speak to Peter Ting about getting all of the data from the school to see if any of the students are linked to the anti-Christ. At the end of the episode Jesus voices that he feels that Christians are using the bible to express their hate, and they are forgetting what it really means to be a Christian

The Actors in this episode have primarily ben i very single season ever made besides the political figures and Jesus.

WHAT ARTICLES HAVE TO SAY:
The guardian-"One of the show's most outrageous installments since "naked Trump" episode.

Screen rat-"Felt like a continuation of season 27."

Season 27 had been cut short due to their crude humor towards late far right advocate Charlie Kirk.

CRITICISMS:
The publics main criticism to the show has been that it has turned "too political". They have since made an episode titled "south park sucks now" just to mock those who have been criticizing it. The characters in south park are very unfiltered and tend to say things most shows would not air to the public. They are also very modernized and relatable to the public. They even use slang that the new generation uses. ea.: "67" meme. They talk about the world in a very present sense and are never very far off from what is going on in the United States.

SIMILAR SHOWS:

Family Guy-

-Also uses crude humor, a pop-culture parody similar to south park, very offensive

American Dad-

-CIA culture, real world humor

The main differences between south park and these shows are that south park has more creative independence than they do. They are also animated in a more unique way that no cartoon has ever done.

STEREOTYPES:
The highly stereotype Trump as well as his supporters and colleagues. They pant his supporters as though they don't think on their own and they worship him in a sense. They also paint his colleagues as people to do whatever they say. For example, when they brought Pam Bondi on the show in Episode 2, they show her as having poop on her nose painting the picture that she has her nose up Trumps ass.

WHO ARE THEY TARGETING?

I believe they are targeting Liberal leaning American adults. I believe they aim towards those that are middle to lower middle class that are able to relate to the main characters. They also aim to entertain those that enjoy crude humor and can handle heavy criticism. I notice the Ads during the show are just showing ads for other harsh comedies. I think that is just on brand for the audience and the show itself.

WHAT DOES IT MAKE OTHERS THINK?

If I did not live in the US and I saw this show the I would think that the US must have a very corrupt government that hates its people. I would also think that Americans are one big joke. I may even see the youth as being easily influenced and easy to manipulate. I would also think the American people elected a president they don't even like.

STRENGTHS:

-Turns the real world into episodes in less than a week.

-Responds to scandals, Celebrity drama, and viral moments.

-The episodes feel very alive due to always being current.

-Only animated show that mocks weekly news cycle.

WEAKNESSES:
-Can swing from intelligent humor to childish humor too fast.

-Takes away from serious points.

-Substitutes provision for depth.

-Can even feel lazy at times.

The episode "bloody Mary" and "the China problem" show great examples of these strengths and weaknesses.

I like that the show is heavily relatable to today's society. Although, I don't like that the humor in the show can feel childish at times making it hard to take seriously.

I will say due to their lack of shame to insult people it makes the show very memorable. For example, when they show Trump fully naked and they mock hid naked body. It does come off as disrespectful but also very memorable and laughable. I disagree strongly with most of the critics of the show. When they say it is "too political" when it is a political cartoon, I think that is a little silly.

New York times says, "south park is crude and childish which makes it perfect for this moment". I strongly agree with that in the way that when you are mocking crude and childish people, I can't see why yourself cannot be crude and childish.

I watch all of the new episodes as they come out, I really enjoy the show. I also follow them on TikTok. They use social media to their advantage from posting short clips of new episodes to promote it to also using hashtags to make their posts go viral. They tend to engage in trending social media topics as well.

THE WHITE HOUSE SAYS:
"No fourth-rated show can derail President Trumps hot streak" They were clearly highly offended by what south park has had to say.

   I LEARNED:

I definitely learned that south park is not afraid to offend public figures. I also learned that people have a hard time with crude humor within the media. I think what surprised me though most was that the producers publicly voiced that they had no regrets and how confident they continue to be in their work with no shame.
